A Day of Mixed Emotions

Wow. What an eventful day. My mood has gone from sad to happy to sad all day.

As the baseball community knows, Nick Adenhart was killed because of drunk driving. I found out about this at lunch today in school, and really, that made the rest of my day just not as good. As much as we are saddened to see him go, as I have been reading in articles, no one is paying attention to the other 2 victims. I am seeing stories on the Internet that don’t even mention them. While Nick’s family is getting much assistance from the community for getting through this, have we as people forgotten about Courtney Stewart, Henry Pearson, and Jon Wilhite? These people had families too, childhood friends. Yet, they aren’t getting the sympathy Nick and his family are getting.

I am not trying to sound bad or anything, I just want to ask you to keep the other victims and there families in your prayers, particularly Jon Wilhite who is still alive but in critical condition. So when you are talking about Nick and his death, make sure you don’t forget about the other 2 and the one still fighting for survival.

White Sox Game

Hopefully, the White Sox would brighten my day by giving the South Side a win. Not the case. John Danks did the best he could, pitching 6 innings and allowing 0 runs. However, the White Sox live and die on the home run ball. And that was not working against Kyle Davies, who did just as good. In fact, there was a 0-0 tie going into the 9th. Bobby Jenks came out, and Coco Crisp hit a home run that scored two.

A White Sox comeback was possible as Carlos Quentin got on base with a double. Thome advanced Quentin to third, and Konerko got him home, but it was not enough as Joakim Soria got the save once again, giving the Royals a 2-1 win and a 2-1 record.

3 Stars of the Game

1. Kyle Davies: 7 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs. Need I say more?

2. Coco Crisp: 2-for-3, with the game-winning home run.

3. John Danks: 6 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs. Once again, need I say more?

On the bright side……… It was Opening Night for the Connecticut Defenders, and my favorite player and hero, Brett Pill, was starting at first base in his first AA game. Luckily, with technology, I was able to listen to the game on radio here in Illinois. In his first at-bat, he struck out. But in his second at-bat, he hit a double down the left field line for a double that scored the first run of the whole season. Next, he had a great at-bat, going from an 0-2 count to 3-2, and fouling off a bunch. He faced a lot of pitches that at-bat, but in the end, hit the ball deep to center field, but it was caught. And in his final at-bat, he knocked another double.

Brett Pill went 2-for-4, with 3 quality at-bats in his first start at AA. Good luck the rest of the way! I am rooting for you!
